2019 – A Year in Review

Another year is behind us, so as per the established tradition it’s time to have a look at some statistics. I started MyForeverTravel in 2018, which means that it’s been running for nearly 2 years now. Therefore, we can have a look at the most popular posts of 2019, but also the most popular posts of all times.

But before I start with the lists, I would like to mention that my website grew considerably in 2019. I published 40 new posts, thus in addition to 26 posts published in 2018, the total number of posts on the website is 66 now.

It is still a relatively low number, but the time is on my side. In other words, there will be many new posts in 2020, as I continue to travel and write about my experiences and places that I visit.

In terms of traffic, the number of visitors in 2019 increased by 166%, compared with 2018. It’s a significant growth, hopefully this is a trend that will continue in 2020 and beyond.

Finally, a very big and important achievement, that I need to mention, is that MyForeverTravel has been voted the “Best Personal Travel Blog 2020 – UK”, by the LUX Magazine Travel & Tourism Awards. I am very honoured and proud of this award. There are so many travel blogs on the internet, so to be identified, selected and awarded is almost a miracle. At the same time, it means that I am probably doing something that stands out.

TOP TEN POSTS OF 2019

When it comes to the Top Ten post for 2019, there aren’t many surprises. Inevitably, articles that I published at the beginning of the year had the most views. In fact, the most recent post that features in the list is from the beginning of June 2019.

It means that the later posts had fewer views and couldn’t compete with the earlier ones. But, as you will see, one post from 2018 came out of nowhere and secured a place in the Top Ten.

Also, several posts from the second half of 2019 are making significant advances, in terms of views and popularity. The Top Ten list may look completely different in 2020. We will see, especially because the already published articles will compete with the new ones that I will publish in the future.

10. BELGRADE FORTRESS

I published this post at the end of January last year. The article is about the most important historical site in Belgrade, the old fortress that overlooks the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers.

9. SUPPLEMENTS FOR HEALTHY LIFE AND STRONG IMMUNE SYSTEM

I am very glad that this post made it in the Top Ten. In this article, I talk about supplements that I take on a regular basis, in order to support my immune system and overall health. I published it at the end of March last year.

8. SUZHOU

This is the only 2018 post that made it in the Top Ten list of the most viewed post of 2019. I was slightly surprised with its sudden popularity, although Suzhou is a phenomenal place and probably a lot of people were searching for information on this city and came across my post.

7. NATIONAL MUSEUM BELGRADE – YUGOSLAV 20th CENTURY ART (PART 1)

I published this post on the 1st June last year, so this is the most recent post included in the Top Ten list. The article is about the Yugoslav paintings in the National Museum in Belgrade. However, I need to mention that the second post, that completes the story of the Yugoslav art, was also very popular, in the 11th place. We will see how both posts will do this year.

6. BELGRADE

This was the first post that I published last year and it talks about the Serbian capital city. I’m not surprised that it’s in the Top Ten. It’s interesting, because it’s about a city that very few people that I know have visited. At the same time, it had the longest available time to attract the views.

5. PRINCESS LJUBICA’S RESIDENCE – BELGRADE

This post, published at the beginning of February last year, talks about a small museum in Belgrade. It’s an Ottoman style house, very atmospheric and it houses a very interesting exhibition on the “Interiors of the 19th Century Serbian Homes in Belgrade”.

4. CRYPT OF SAINT SAVA CHURCH – BELGRADE

This post is about the crypt of the magnificent Saint Sava church, still under construction in Belgrade. However, the crypt is finished, it’s open to the public and it is magnificent.

3. NATIONAL MUSEUM BELGRADE – SERBIAN MEDIEVAL ART

I knew that posts on the National Museum in Belgrade would be popular, but I didn’t think that they would be popular to the point that they would hold the top three positions. This particular post had 52% more views than the post in the 4th position. It’s about the magnificent collection of frescoes and icons exhibited in the National Museum in Belgrade.

2. NATIONAL MUSEUM BELGRADE – INTERNATIONAL COLLECTION

The 2nd position goes to the article that talks about the international paintings in the National Museum in Belgrade. This article was slightly ahead of the post in the 3rd position. I’m not surprised as the collection is marvellous and it is certainly very interesting for the art lovers who would like to know what’s in the museum, but either can’t or don’t want to visit Belgrade and the museum, for some reason. This post is a great opportunity to see what’s in there, it’s rather comprehensive, although it doesn’t show absolutely everything that’s in the museum.

1. NATIONAL MUSEUM BELGRADE – SERBIAN 19th CENTURY PAINTING

By far, the most popular post and the absolute winner is an article on the Serbian 19th century painting. This post had 72% more views than the post in the 2nd position. It was viewed on a daily basis. It is also one of my most favourite posts.

TOP TEN POSTS OF ALL TIMES

When it comes to the Top Ten posts of all time, the situation is slightly different, but at the same time, it’s also very interesting. Four posts that were in the list last year are still there, although in different positions. One post from 2018, that didn’t feature last year, is now in the Top Ten.

So, in addition to five posts from 2018, there are also five posts from 2019 in this list. However, I think that this list will soon change, as there are some other posts that are getting frequent views and are steadily advancing to the top.

For the time being, the top three posts in this list are the same as the top three posts for 2019 and there is every chance that they will continue to be popular and will maintain the top position.

TOP TEN COUNTRIES – PER NUMBER OF VIEWS

Finally, here is the list of the Top Ten countries, according to the number of views in 2019. Unsurprisingly, the UK is in the top position, but that’s because most people that I know are from the UK. They regularly check my new posts and generate views, for which I am very grateful.

I’ve also had visitors from a lot of countries worldwide. Some interesting ones that I want to mention are Trinidad & Tobago, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tanzania and Zambia. There were visitors to MyForeverTravel from 85 different countries in total, in 2019.

1. UNITED KINGDOM

2. UNITED STATES

3. ITALY

4. SERBIA

5. TURKEY

6. INDONESIA

7. CHINA

8. SLOVENIA

9. FRANCE

10. CANADA

So, these are the results at the end of 2019. I look forward to seeing how my website will continue in 2020. I know that it will be an exciting year in terms of both, travelling that I am planning to do, and posts that I will write and publish here on My Forever Travel.
